１１月９日３０周年記念日 アレクサンダー広場の様子

　今年１１月９日は旧東ドイツと西ドイツの壁が崩壊した衝撃的な日から、ちょうど３０年が経過した日でした。そのため、ベルリン市内では様々な関連イベントや、写真のようなアレクサンダー広場の建物の壁をスクリーン代わりにして、壁崩壊宣言をした映像や実際に壁が崩壊された当日の様子を映像で映し出しました。その夜はもちろん壁崩壊３０周年の記念すべきかつ、土曜日の夜ということもありましたが、特に旧東ドイツの人たちにとっては、崩壊してから３０年が経過した記念日・お祝いということもあり、アレクサンダー広場には多くの人が集まっていました。

　その後、ご近所さんでもある旧東地区に住む友人の東・西ドイツ出身のご夫婦のご自宅で友達、知り合いだけを集めたアットホームなお祝いパーティーに参加。リビングの暖炉の前には、東ドイツ時代に発行された本、ファッション雑誌やロードマップ、崩壊された頃のデモの様子を写した生の写真などが置いてあったり、なんとも旧東ムードたっぷりで、いろいろ眺めてみたりもしました。そのパーティーに来ていた東ドイツで育った人から、この衝撃的な壁崩壊の日のお話を実際に直接聞き、改めて衝撃的な歴史の一つであったのだと、感激しました。

　私はドイツに来てから、ほとんどはベルリンの旧東地区であるミッテに住んでいますが、街並みや住む人々の様子もすっかり変わりましたが、やはり西ベルリンと比べると、街並みや人々の特徴やライフスタイルなど、今でも違いがあることに気がつきます。
旧東地区、特にミッテ地区には政治の中心でもある国会議事堂や首相官邸、美術館など観光客に人気のスポットがたくさんで、壁崩壊後急速に発展したこともあり、逆に新しいお店もたくさんあります。まちが東西に分かれていたという、３０年前にはベルリンに住んでいなかった当人ですが、このような劇的な歴史の感覚を味わえるのもベルリンならではのことです。

　After that, I participated in a cozy celebration party that gathered only friends and acquaintances at home of a couple from East and West Germany who is a friend who lives in the former East district.

In front of the fireplace in the living room, there were books published in the era of East Germany, fashion magazines and roadmaps, live photos showing the state of the demo when the wall collapsed, and It’s hard to put into words, plenty of old East germany mood. I also stared various them. Then I was impressed again that I heard the story of this shocking wall collapse day directly from a person who grew up in East Germany who came to the party, and that it had be the one of shocking history.

　Since I came to Germany, I mostly have been living in Mitte, the former eastern district of Berlin, the cityscape and people have changed completely.
But as I imagined, in comparison with West Berlin, I notice differences even now, such as cityscapes, people's characteristics and lifestyle.

In the old east area, especially the Mitte area, there are many popular spots for tourists ,such as the parliament building which are also the center of politics, the prime minister's residence, and the art museum. And in contrast to West Berlin, there are many new shops because it has developed rapidly after the wall collapses.
I who did not live in Berlin where city divided into east and west 30 years ago, but I have been able to experience such a dramatic sense of history. Because this is perhaps distinctive of Berlin.
